Lago Vista, TX / 2400 SF / New Private Residence
Overlooking a wooded ravine along the shores of Lake Travis, the Outcrop House evokes the long geological history of its Texas Hill Country site. Projecting out over the juniper-covered slope, the form of the house acts as a singular angular block, geometrically split and carved by the incorporation of program, circulation, openness and privacy. A broad single-slope roof unifies the open flow of the floor plan within, privatizes the home from the adjacent street, and cantilevers in dramatic counterpoint over the descending hillside site. The projected volume of the home opens with continuous window walls to bring the interior spaces to the treetops, while shading the entertainment deck below from the summer Texas sun.
