837 Washington Street

NYC / 52,000 SF / Commercial

MORRIS ADJMI ARCHITECTS, 2014
Designed and managed by current FORRM partner Joshua Mackley

Completed by Morris Adjmi Architects, this 6-story steel-and-glass addition revitalized an abandoned warehouse in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. Supported by a twisting frame of structural steel, the dynamic form of the building was derived from the sharp change in the city's street grid as it wraps around the site, shifting from the rambling historic layout of Chelsea into the regular pattern of the 1811 Commissioner's Grid. It became an immediate landmark at the southern terminus of the city's new High Line park. 837 was chosen by Samsung as the home for its New York City showcase.
