MORRIS ADJMI ARCHITECTS, 2016
Designed by current FORRM partner Ludmilla Raphael

This 11-story residential complex, located in Washington DC's vibrant Shaw neighborhood, was completed by Morris Adjmi Architects in 2016. Its striking primary feature is a cross-braced Cor-ten steel exoskeleton which provides the building's lateral stability, while also shading and providing perimeter balconies for the 310 residential units inside. The glass volume sits on a masonry base which recalls the industrial heritage of the site. At street level, the large doors provide community access to restaurants, a theatre, and art studios. Brick and steel, softened with wood and greenery, bring a new life to this essential piece of the neighborhood.
